What a cute retro sewing box by Sherbourne! 
 
The fabric is a red piped / corduroy type and the black sputnik wooden legs have brass feet - very typical from the 1960's when this was produced. 
 
When the lid is opened (which is silk lined) there's a pocket on the underside of the lid and a deep alcove for storage.
 
The mid century sewing box could be used as a sofa end table or even a footstool if you wish, the legs are sturdy enough if you're careful. 
 
The box has had use and the inside is relatively good, considering - I've left a few bits and pieces in (the vintage pin) to add to the retro look and feel of it.
